Lourdes Alemán, Ph.D.
Associate Director for Teaching and Learning
Lourdes Alemán joined the Teaching + Learning Lab in 2017.
Prior to arriving at TLL, she worked at MIT’s Office of Digital Learning (ODL), helping MIT faculty implement best practices in their blended and online courses. In her current role at the Teaching + Learning Lab, she advises faculty on how to innovate in the classroom, teaches graduate students and postdocs how to teach, and is engaged in projects that aim to understand how students learn best. In addition, she serves as a member of the MIT-Haiti Initiative, where she leads sessions for Haitian biology faculty on best practices for teaching and learning.
Lourdes graduated from Brown University with a B.S. in Biology. She obtained her Ph.D. from MIT’s Biology Department, where she studied the specificity of RNA interference in Professor Phillip A. Sharp’s lab. She moved onto become a postdoctoral fellow at MIT in curriculum innovation and science education in Professor Graham Walker’s HHMI MIT Education Group. As a postdoc and then a research scientist in the Education Group, she helped develop, implement, disseminate and assess a suite of innovative software tools for teaching experimental design and data analysis in biology courses (StarBiochem, StarGenetics, and StarCellBio).
